BEST HOMEMADE HAIR OILS FOR 2021

I have told you about DIY hair masks and how to detoxify your hair. Now it's time for some deep root nourishment. Our grandmother and mother tell us constantly about hair nourishment and how oiling your hair on a regular basis is a big part of your hair care routine. Nourishing your hair with a good oil is like keeping your body nourished and healthy with food. Oil is a hair food, and you should feed your hair on a regular basis to keep it nourished, healthy, lustrous, and thick. Oiling your hair regularly conditions your scalp and promotes hair growth by stimulating your hair follicles and improving blood circulation to the scalp for thick, shiny hair.

Trust me, listen to your mothers and do a regular champion, even if you are not thrilled about oily, sticky hair, and you will sure see a noticeable difference. Now the question comes: what hair oil should I use?. So many are available on the market, right? Well, please do read some of my homemade hair oil recipes, which are definitely better than store-bought hair oils.

CURRY LEAVES HAIR OIL

Curry leaves to aid in hair growth as they are high in amino acids and beta-carotene, which are really essential for hair growth. They are also rich in antioxidants, which moisturize your scalp and remove dead skin and hair follicles.  Apart from this, curry leaves are also high in proteins, which are very useful in preventing hair fall and thinning. Besides controlling.

There are a lot of health benefits to consuming curry leaves, and it also helps when used externally to repair and rebuild damaged hair in a natural and non-pharmaceutical way.

Ingredients

1 bowl of curry leaves.

1 bowl of coconut hair oil.

Recipe

Add both ingredients to a bowl and heat it up until you see the leaves change color to black. Heat this mixture on an extremely low flame. Once the leaves change color, turn off the flame and let it cool down. Strain this mixture once it is cool and store it in an airtight bottle.

Usage

Massage this oil once a week into your scalp and in your hair, if they have become dry. Keep it for 3–4 hours or overnight, and rinse it with paraben- and sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. You can store this oil for two months.

HIBISCUS AND NEEM OIL

Using neem oil on the scalp is a recommended solution by Ayurveda to maintain scalp health. Neem oil keeps the dandruff, flaky scalp, and itchy scalp problems away. Neem oil contains antioxidants, fatty acids, and antimicrobial compounds, which benefit the skin and scalp in numerous ways. These compounds are known to fight skin and scalp allergies and infections and promote healthy growth.

Neem oil is the perfect oil to keep your scalp healthy, and when it is combined with Hibiscus flowers, you will get the perfect solution for hair fall and thinning. A deficiency of vitamin C is known to cause hair to fall. Hibiscus is rich in vitamin C, and because of this, infusing these flowers in your oil can boost hair growth immensely.

This flower stimulates the regrowth of hair from follicles and bald patches.  A study conducted on rats has proved that leaf and flower extracts from this tree can promote the growth of hair. This oil will not only strengthen your hair from the roots but will also improve the overall thickness of your hair.

Ingredients

3/4 cup dried and crushed hibiscus flower.

3/4 cup dried and crushed neem leaves.

20–25 fresh hibiscus flowers.

1 bowl of almond oil.

1 bowl of olive oil.

½ bowl of Neem oil (optional; if you don’t have this, the powder will also be sufficient).

Recipe

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and heat it on an extremely low flame. Heat this mixture until the flowers change color and the oil starts bubbling. This should take about 20–30 minutes, depending on your gas flame. Remove this oil from your gas and let it cool down. Strain the mixture and store it in an airtight bottle.

Usage

Apply this hair oil to your scalp once or twice a week and leave it for 4-5 hours or overnight. Shampoo and condition your hair after that, and you will see a visible difference in your hair in about a month.

ALOE VERA AND COCONUT HAIR OIL

Aloe vera is considered a super plant by Ayurveda. Aloe vera is very beneficial for hair and gives you super lustrous locks. Combine this super plant with your hair oil, and you will get an outstanding hair oil for your hair. Aloe vera helps penetrate inside your scalp and hair follicles repairs the damage and conditions your hair naturally.

This homemade hair oil is a great remedy for preventing hair fall by soothing a flaky, dry, and itchy scalp. It also strengthens your hair, increases hair growth, nourishes your hair follicles, and balances the pH level of your scalp and hair.

Ingredients

1 fat and long Aloe Vera stem; if you have a smaller one, use 2.

1 cup organic coconut oil.

Essential oil of your choice (tea tree oil, rosemary oil).

 

Recipe

Peel off the aloe vera stem and remove the pulp from it. This should give you one cup of aloe vera pulp. Mix 1 cup of aloe vera pulp and 1 cup of coconut oil. The ratio of aloe vera and coconut oil should be 1:1. If the pulp is not enough, you can cut one more aloe vera stem and remove its pulp.

Combine both ingredients well and put it on low heat for about 7 minutes. Let this cool down completely, and add about 10 drops of the essential oil of your choice. Pour this mixture into a dark, airtight bottle and let it sit for 3 weeks before you start using it.

Usage

Shake the oil well before you start using it. You can apply this hair oil once or twice a week. You can keep this hair in your hair overnight, or if you think that becomes too messy, keep it at least for 3–4 hours before you wash it off. Please try and use chemical- and sulfate-free shampoo while using these hair oils to see better results.

ONION HAIR OIL

Onions are high in sulfate. This is the reason why onions help with the treatment of a variety of hair problems. Onion hair oil promotes hair growth and is also known for treating baldness. Sulfur prevents hair thinning and split ends. It also prevents hair breakage and makes the strands thicker.

Onions also balance the pH level of the hair, which helps prevent premature graying of the hair. This oil even has antibacterial and cleansing properties that help treat scalp allergies and infections. It also contains vital minerals and vitamins needed to strengthen hair roots, giving you dense, thick, and strong hair growth. Studies show that onion hair oil is very effective in regrowing hair if applied at an early stage of baldness. If this hair oil is applied 2-3 times a week, you will start noticing a visible difference in 6–8 weeks.

Ingredients

½ cup coconut oil.

3 tablespoons of olive oil.

4 cloves of garlic.

2 medium-size onions.

10 drops of lavender or rosemary essential oils.

Recipe

Finely chop the garlic and onion and put them in a thick bottom bowl. Add both oils to it. Heat this mixture on a low flame until the onions and garlic become crisp and dark brown. Make sure the onions have left all their juices in the oil. Remove the mixture from the flame and let it cool down completely. Strain this mixture properly and add essential oils to it. Store this oil in an airtight bottle and store it in the fridge.

Usage

Use this oil 2-3 times a week and leave it overnight before rinsing your hair off with a chemical-free shampoo.

AMLA (GOOSEBERRY) HAIR OIL

Amla is extremely rich in vitamin C and natural antioxidants named polyphenols and flavonoids. When this super berry is mixed with oil, it is known to condition and strengthen follicles down to their roots. Ayurveda also says amla can oil can stop premature graying, promote hair growth, and keep dandruff away as well. Amlas are rich in Vitamin E; they are anti-inflammatory and great hydration for hair, all of which help protect the hair shafts and give you thick, shiny hair.

This is the perfect hair oil for women and men suffering from premature graying, hair damage, and hair fall. A good massage with this oil will provide a cooling effect on the scalp and will ease stress as well. Regular use of this hair oil will increase hair flexibility and elasticity and will make your hair silkier, softer, and darker.

Ingredients

1 cup extra virgin coconut oil.

3 tablespoons of sesame oil.

6–8 fresh amla.

Recipe

Grate the Amla fruit in a bowl, mix both the oils in it and leave this mixture out in the sun for 1 day. Keep this bowl on a low flame the next day and cook it until it starts making bubbles and the grated amla has left all its juices in the oil. Remove this mixture and keep it in the sun for one more day. Strain this mixture and store the oil in a dark bottle. Let the oil rest in a cool place for a week before you start using it.

Usage

You can use this oil twice a week. Apply it the night before or just 3 hours before your hair. Make sure you use organic, chemical-free shampoo and conditioner for better results.

Precautions while making homemade oils

  • Cooking these oils on a high flame will destroy their nutrients, so always cook them slowly. Don’t keep the flames hot beyond 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Make sure the oils have cooled down completely before you start straining them.
  • Never overheat the coconut oil, or it will lose its nutritional value.
  • Do not oil your hair more than twice a week, and avoid washing your hair every day, or you will run out of natural oils.
  • Please switch to natural, chemical-free shampoos and conditioners.
