CASUAL SPRING TRENDS - 2021

Casual Spring Trends: 2021

The spring of 2021 is different because it is occurring amidst a pandemic. We have to maintain social distancing, and travel restrictions, and stay mostly indoors. Due to all this, the designers have been scratching their heads and trying to figure out how fashion fits into this new normal. Can they design spring clothes like they used to pre-COVID-19?

Can our existing spring clothes ever leave our wardrobe and see the daylight?

When will the quarantine end? What will our post-quarantine wardrobe look like?

Well, there are too many questions to answer. Let's see what the designers have to say about the spring trends of 2021. Track pants and jogger suits were at the peak of the trend in 2020. Oversized jackets, light-weight knitwear, and tomboyish trousers seem like the go-to choices for designers, as they had to keep in mind the work-from-home lifestyle of the masses.

As the pandemic has continued to destroy the fashion industry with bankruptcies, store closures, and overstocked warehouses, most brands are focusing on trends and garments that can sell in this economic downtime. Most of the fashion shows from Milan to Paris revolve around these fashion trends for spring 2021.

BLACK FACE MASK

Let’s first talk about the need of the hour. There is no running away from these face masks until the pandemic is over, and no one knows when that will happen, so we might as well do it with style. These sleek black face masks go with almost every outfit you own in your wardrobe, and they offer great protection and coverage as well.

Opt for fabrics that are soft and have a little bit of sheen as well. You can also choose an embellished mask if you feel fancy. The reason behind wearing a simple black face mask is that you can style it in any way you like. Wear a simple cardigan and jeggings or a trench coat; this mask will work with everything.

TRACKSUITS

Big fashion labels like Tom Ford and Rodarte drifted away a little from their usual glamorous clothes into more wearable and relatable pajama sets and track pants made in satin, keeping the public demand in this pandemic in mind. Mui Mui and Hugo Boss showcased athletic tracksuits in the biggest color trends of spring/summer 2021. The models looked stunning in the hues of navy, sky, and royal blue.

 GRAPHIC TEES

You hear graphic tees and you think of street-style clothing, and now one might wonder how graphic tees can be a part of a runway trend. In between an unsure lockdown racial discrimination protests and globally spread political unrest, graphic tees with important messages took on a very new importance.

Graphic tees came with messages like “Vote” and “Save the Earth." Chanel dug into the archive and mixed graphic tees with 80’s fashion and came up with neon graphics of their iconic “C” and "No.5".

BRALETTES OR BRA TOPS?

After going for a month without bras, it was a task to wear our bras again on a daily basis. Perhaps this trend was designed to prove to others that "yes, we can still wear our bras". Anyway, jokes apart! In 2021, crop tops are history. Bra tops have taken their place. This year, designers reworked simple bras in a very imaginative and creative way. By pairing lace bras with overcoats, oversized jackets, and flared pants, designers have given us a new formal look.

Pace Rabanne styled their model in a classic French girl look with a lacy black bra, flared leather pants, and a leather overcoat. Some designers dared to show some skin on the runway with the model's midriff showing from their button-opened oversized blazers; some then opted for layered looks to hide those Dare you to wear these formals?

CARDIGANS

Cardigans have become a huge hit again for spring 2021, mainly because these oversized tops feel perfectly comfortable for a stay-at-home workday. Designers opted for lightweight fabrics like cashmere for their chunky sweaters. These can be worn as a top with pants, a skirt, or as an oversized chic. Of course, no pants are needed in this dress if worn correctly. Versace came up with a cropped cardigan that looked absolutely sexy.

FLIP FLOPS

Uncomfortable heels are a story from yesterday; this season, designers are embracing the new normal casual lifestyle in every piece of clothing and accessory they are presenting. Flip-flops feel more appropriate for our casual lifestyle. Designers still added a touch of glamour to these basic flip-flops by adding some studs and glamour to them. Stella McCartney played with the proportions with push padding in a sporty style. Flip-flops are the most essential accessories of 2021, according to brands like Balenciaga and Rosetta Getty, as they can be worn outdoors as well as indoors.

OVERSIZED JACKETS

You can create a long silhouette and play with shapes as well with these oversized jackets inspired by 80’s fashion. You can pair these jackets with sleek pants or leather shorts and some sneakers for an ultra-chic look. The colors that work beautifully with this jacket are neutrals, charcoal grays, and powder blues.

XL SHIRTS

Well, if you thought it was only the blazers that could be oversized and in style, think again! After oversized blazers, it was time for oversized shirts. Now I know you might be wondering, aren’t they called borrowed shirts or boyfriend or dad shirts? But I am here to tell you to get out of this cliché thinking. Let this XL shirt be yours and yours alone.

The idea is to be comfortable since we have gotten so used to it since 2020. Wear these shirts as they are and keep them breezy, or put a belt around your waist to show off the curves. You could also tuck it in by jegging, keeping the top two buttons open, and making it a boat neck. Style this shirt the way you want to; the options are multiple.

HEAD SCARFS

Taking inspiration in a big way from the 50s and 60s, this head scarf trend is making a massive comeback. Headgear gives a finishing touch to your outfits and protects your hair as well. Also, wearing a scarf looks chic and trendy without overdoing or overtrying. Take your pick from floral motifs or block letters. You even get intricate patterns or bold colors in this accessory.

You can style the scarf in multiple ways: tie it around your chin in a loose knot or let it hang down at the back of your head. In case you don’t want to wear it on your head, you can tie it around your handbag as a style statement as well.

FRINGE BAGS

These bags make a statement for you on their own. This season, fringed bags are one of the biggest fashion trends that we have seen. Let those tassels on the bag dangle close to the fabric, or let them almost touch the floor. This amazing tassel bag is sure to turn heads while you walk down the road. Choose from different fabrics available for bags, be it leather or shearling. You can rock this chic look with any outfit and any event. For a classic nighttime formal event, choose a leather bag with dark colors. You can choose a casual, breezy bag for a day party or a lunch date.

To sum it up this spring, keep it casual and simple, as casual trends have taken over the runway as well. Let us know your wardrobe favorites for this spring.
